St Teresa
Foundation Phase
Modernising an established Johannesburg school
St Teresa School (The Foundation Phase) appointed Walras to carry out the design and construction of the new Grade R (Reception year)
classrooms as well as the refurbishment of the existing administrative block. Using the art block’s original footprint, a structural survey was carried out to determine if loading onto the existing structures was acceptable. The design was then carried out accordingly. The scope of the work included the construction of two new classrooms and an outside teaching area. All materials were sourced to match the existing school buildings.
The administration block was stripped down to its core and fitted-out to provide a new reception area, waiting room, printing room, sick bay, staffroom, boardroom, principal’s office and staff kitchen. Work was carried out during school breaks to accommodate learning operations.
